Recursive digital filters for biological signals

Abstract

Digital filters achieve their frequency-selective properties by operating on the values of a sampled-data signal. After outlining an important design method for such filters, two classes of recursive digital filter of particular value for the processing of biological signals are described in some detail. These are applied to the recovery of an ECG waveform from wide- and narrowband contaminating noise.

Les filtres digitaux exercent leurs propriétés de sélection de fréquence en opérant sur les valeurs d'un signal d'information choisie. L'auteur esquisse une méthode importante de conception de ce genre de filtres, puis décrit plus en détail deux classes de filtres digitaux récursifs particulièrement utiles pour le traitement des signaux biologiques. Ces filtres sont utilisés pour dégager une forme d'onde électrocardiographique des bruits perturbateurs à bande large et à bande étroite.

Zusammenfassung

Digitalfilter erlangen ihre Frequenz-trennenden Eigenschaften durch Betrieb auf den Werten eines Probedatensignals. Nach Umreissen einer wichtigen Konstruktionsmethode für solche Filter werden zwei Klassen von rekursiven Digitalfiltern von besonderem Wert für die Verarbeitung biologischer Signale ausführlich beschrieben. Diese werden auf die Rückgewinnung einer ECG-Wellenform aus breit- und schmalbandiger verunreinigender Störung angewandt.
