Abstract

For elemental metals, other than those in Groups VIII and IIB, there exists a simple rela-tionship between the temperature dependence of the liquid density, Λ [=(δD/δT)p], and the boiling temperature,TB. It is shown that the fractional change in density between 0 K andTB appears to be constant;i .e ., ATB/d00 =-0.23. D00 is a scale factor defined by Doo =DM- ΛTm, whereDm is the density of the liquid at the absolute melting temperature, TM. This relationship has been used to estimate A for eight high melting point elements for which no experimental data exist.
