Abstract
A mathematical model for the planar flow melt spinning process was developed under the constraints of low Reynolds numbers. The model shows melt spun ribbon thickness is controlled by chilled wheel speed and nozzle passage flow resistance. A stability criterion was used to determine conditions under which formation of transverse waves on the ribbon free surface is favored.
