Muon transfer to heavy atoms: A probe for the study of the (μp)2S system

Summary

The transfer process of a negative muon from the (μp)1S -and the (μp)2S -state to a heavy atom (Z≳10) is studied by using a semi-classical approximation; the electron shielding and the (μp) tunnelling through the atomic potential are considered. Estimates of the transfer cross-section are given. It is found that the transfer from the 2S-state is faster than from the 1S-state by a factorλ 2S /λ 1S ⋍ 90Z −1/2. It is suggested, therefore, that the transfer process can be an useful probe to study the (μp)2S atom.

In questo lavoro si studia in approssimazione semiclassica il processo di trasferimento di unμ degli stati (μp)1S e (μp)2S ad un atomo pesante (Z ≥ 10); si tiene conto nel calcolo dello schermo elettronico e della penetrazione del (μp) attraverso il potenziale atomico. Si riportano stime della sezione d’urto di trasferimento e si trova che il trasferimento dallo stato 2S è più veloce del trasferimento dallo stato 1S per un fattoreλ 2S /λ 1S ⋍ 90Z −1/3. Ciò suggerisce che il processo di trasferimento può cessere usato come probe per studiare il sistema (μp)2S .

Исследуется процесс переноса отрицательного мюона иэ (μ⌏1S и (μp)2S состояния в тяжелый атом (Z ≳ 10), испольэуя кваэиклассическое приближение. Рассматривается зкранирование злектрона и (μp) туннелирование череэ атомный потенциал. Приводятся оценки поперечного сечения переноса. Обнаружено, что перенос иэ 2S состояния окаэывается более интенсивным, чем иэ 1S состояния, пропорционально величинеλ 2S /λ 1S ⋍ 90 Z−1/3. Иэ аналиэа предполагается, что зтот процесс переноса может быть полеэен для исследования (μp)2S атома.
