Direct measurement of the transfer rates of muons from μp muonic atoms to argon, krypton and xenon atoms

Summary

We have measured the rates of the muon transfer reaction μp+ z Y→μ z Y+p in a target of ultra-pure gaseous hydrogen at 10 atmospheres contaminated by a small proportion of the z Y element ( z Y stands here for argon, krypton and xenon). The results are compared with preceding experimental data and discussed in connection with those obtained for the reaction μd+ z Y→μ z Y+p.

Riassunto

Sono state misurate le velocità di trasferimento dei muoni negativi da atomi muonici μp a diversi elementi z Y, secondo le reazioni μp+ z Y→μ z Y+p ( z Y essendo volta a volta argon, krypton e xenon). Le misure sono state realizzate rallentando muoni negativi in un bersaglio di idrogeno ultra-puro alla pressione di 10 atmosfere, contaminato da una piccola proporzione dell'elemento z Y. I risultati ottenuti sono confrontati con dati sperimentali precedenti, e vengono discussi in rapporto a quelli ottenuti per la reazione μd+ z Y→μ z Y+p.

Мы измерили интенсивности рекции мюонного перехода μp+ z Y→μ z Y+p в мишени сверхчистого газообразного водорода при 10 атмосферах, содержащего известную малую долю элемента z Y ( z Y относится эдесь к аргоны, криптону и ксенону). Полученные результаты сравниваются с предыдущими экспе-риментальными данными в связи с результатами, полученными для реакции μd+ z Y→μ z Y+p.
