Detailed investigation on 800 TeV jet interaction

Summary

A gamma-ray family JF1af1 with energy of ΣE γ∼260 TeV was observed in the emulsion chamber on board the Super Sonic Concorde. By using the geometrical method, it was found that the interaction vertex was located within the surroundings of the Concorde. The large slant distance 3.24 +0.40−0.28 m enabled one successfully to separate the shower cores generated by even highest-energy gamma-rays in the forward region. The event showed the characteristic features of a very-high-energy interaction: high multiplicity ∼150, high gamma-ray density in rapidity scale ∼50 and presence of a high transverse-momentum component with <p >=0.60 +0.12−1.10 GeV/c having frequency of one tenth of the total. Comparisons were made with other extremely-high-multiplicity events observed so far at high energies.

È stata osservata una famiglia di raggi gamma JF1af1 con energia ΣE γ∼260 TeV nella camera di emulsione a bordo del Super Sonic Concorde. Usando il metodo geometrico, si è trovato che il vertice d’interazione è situato in prossimità del Concorde. La lunga distanza diretta di 3.24 +0.40−0.28 m ha permesso successivamente di separare i noccioli dello sciame generati anche dai raggi gamma con altissime energie nella regione avanti. L’evento presentava le caratteristiche di un’interazione ad altissima energia: alta molteplicità ∼150, alta densità dei raggi gamma in scala di rapidità ∼50 e presenza d’una componente con alto impulso trasversale con <p >=0.60 +0.12−0.10 GeV/c e con frequenza di un decimo della totale. Sono stati fatti confronti con altri eventi con molteplicità estremamente alte osservati finora ad alte energie.

В эмульсионной камере на борту сверхзвукового Конкорда наблюдалось семейство гамма-лучей с энергией ΣE γ∼260 ТэВ. Используя геометрический метод, было обнаружено, что вершина взаимодействия расположена недалеко от Конкорда. Большое наклонное расстояние 3.24 +0.40−0.28 м позволило успешно разделить центральные части ливней, образованных гамма-лучами очень высоких элергий в направлении вперед. Указанное событие обнаруживает характерные особенности для взаимодействия при очень высоких энергиях: высокая множественность ∼ 150, высокая плотность гамма-лучей ∼ 50 и наличие компоненты с боляшими поперечными импульсами с <p >=0.60 +0.12−0.10 ГэВ/с, которая имеет частоту, равную одной десятой от полной. Проводится сравнение с другими событиями с чрезвычайно высокой множественностью, которые наблюдались при высоких энергиях.
