Information provided in this paper reflects the state of affairs as of May 15, 1974. Since the problem of illicit opium production is of great socio-economic importance, one can appreciate the state of flux that emerges as a result of the continuing attempts on the part of various governments to eliminate or at least minimize the illegal trade. This means that great caution should be exercised in assessing the situation as it currently exists in any given country.
