Abstract
Cuban anoles (Anolis sagrei) were studied in a one-way shuttle procedure with a compound auditory-light stimulus which commenced 5 sec. prior to electric shock onset. None of the 6 lizards learned to avoid, although all animals developed reliable escape responding. Asymptotic performance was quite similar to that obtained in an earlier study which employed a two-way shuttle procedure. The results suggest that auditory and visual stimuli do not become effective conditioned stimuli with lizards when they are paired with an aversive stimulus.
