Zusammenfassung
In der Berichterstattung über die Entwicklungen hin zu alternativen Antrieben für den automobilen Individualverkehr lässt sich seit Jahren ein wiederkehrendes Muster identifizieren. Nach dem konkreten Einführungstermin und der marktweiten Verbreitung diese Alternativen gefragt, äußern sich die relevanten Automobilkonzerne stets dahingehend, dass Zeiträume zwischen 3 und 5 Jahren genannt werden, in denen die jeweiligen Alternative tatsächlich einen signifikanten und über reines Prototyping oder Sonderanwendungen hinausgehende Markstellung haben werde. So untersucht Bakker (2010) diese „Hype-Zyklen“ für die Antriebsalternativen auf Wasserstoffbasis. Ähnliches lässt sich aber auch für alternative Antriebe auf Batteriebasis beobachten. So kündigten beispielsweise die namhaften US-amerikanischen Hersteller im Nachgang strenger werdender Emissionssregulierung in den USA immer wieder wettbewerbsfähige und marktreife Fahrzeuge an. In der faktischen Umsetzung lässt sich dann allerdings beobachten, dass seit Beginn der Diskussion um Antriebsalternativen in steter Regelmäßigkeit diese Ankündigungen seitens der Automobilkonzerne nicht eingehalten werden.

Natürlich unter Außerachtlassung des Straßennetzes. Dieses ist allerdings in einem komparativen Analyseansatz sinnvollerweise auszuschließen, da auch die diskutierten Vergleichstechnologien auf ein solches Netz angewiesen wären und es damit keinen potenziellen Wertverlust, der wiederum Anreiz zum Beibehalten der Technologie stiften würde, erlebte.
