Abstract

An overview of factors affecting metalloprotein redox potentials is given, together with an assessment of the role of site-directed mutagenesis of hemoproteins in investigating this topic and a description of several theoretically challenging hemoproteins. The conclusion is reached that a quantitative and experimentally testable description of metalloprotein redox potentials is not yet available.
