Abstract

The 1:1 complexes of the complete series of lanthanide nitrates with a diazatetraoxa 18-membered macrocycle have been synthesized under anhydrous conditions. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, conductometric and spectral data. It is established that the macrocycle adopts a non-planar conformation and that the nitrate ions are bonded differently in the heavier (La—Sm) and lighter (Gd—Yb) lanthanide complexes. The coordinating abilities relative to the rare earths of the macrocycle and of dibenzo-18-crown-6 are discussed.
