Abstract

This paper presents an exact determination of coupled bending and torsion vibration characteristics of uniform beams having single cross-sectional symmetry. A novel feature of the analysis is the expression of the exact solutions in terms of real functions, as is usual in more elementary vibration problems of beams. Numerical results are given to explain the effect of the shear centre offset on the natural frequencies.

Later, Carr [90] presented an approximate method for finding natural frequencies for torsional vibration problem investigated by Gere for various boundary conditions. Coupled bending and torsional vibrations of uniform beams with single cross sectional symmetry were given by several researchers like Mei [91], Dokumaci [92] and Friberg [93]. Rajasekaran [94], Murray and Rajasekaran [95] presented a technique for the formulation of the equations for thin-walled beams.
