The 1D and 2D-NMR spectral data of these compounds are consistent with those of a chromene skeleton. Thus, compounds 1, 2, 3 and 4 were identified as 6-acetyl-7-hydroxy-2,2-dimethylchromene (eupatoriochromene) (Harel et al., 2011), 6-acetyl-7-methoxy-2,2-dimethylchromene (methyleupatoriochromene) (Zhai et al., 2010), 6-(1-hydroxyethyl)-7-methoxy-2,2-dimethylchromene (encecalinol) (Fang et al., 1988) and 6-(1-ethoxyethyl)-7-methoxy-2,2-dimethylchromene (ethyl encecalol) (Steelink and Marshall, 1979), respectively. There are no spectroscopic or optical evidences to define the absolute stereochemistry of C-11 from compounds 3 and 4.

The molecular mass is 30u less than the molecular mass of evodionolmethylether (8) which could suggest it has a methoxyl group less. A compound with one less methoxyl group than evodionolmethylether (8) was found to be encecalin (10) from the Encelia species [16]. A loss of 18u is also seen for this compound which cannot be accounted for.
