2018, Life SciencesCitation Excerpt :This serine protease shares substrate specificity with caspase 8, cleaves proapoptotic Bid to cause cytochrome c release via MOMP activation. Whatever be the mode of cell death (Extrinsic/Intrinsic/Granzyme-perforin mediated), they converge to common executioner pathway (caspase 3/7 activation) and induce apoptosis related cytomorphological changes [111,112] (Fig. 3). PCD is not only confined to apoptosis.

2017, Fish and Shellfish ImmunologyCitation Excerpt :Cytotoxic lymphocytes (CTL) primarily composed of CD8+ cytotoxic T cells and NK cells, which play central roles in the immune response against virus infected cells and are both key components of the host immune system. Activated CTL kill the infected cell by releasing cytolytic granules such as pore-forming protein perforin and serine protease granzymes [44–47] or activating the caspase-dependent Fas-Fas ligand pathway [48,49]. In virus-injected group, perforin and granzyme gradually increased and were significantly highly expressed at later time points at 4 d and 7 dpi.
