2021, Earth-Science ReviewsCitation Excerpt :Early Cretaceous to Archean zircon xenocrysts recorded from an Oligocene pluton on the island of Guadalcanal were formed in old continental crust that was sampled by Paleogene subduction melts (Tapster et al., 2014). Adelaidean rocks near Adelaide contain a localised cleavage with a Rb-Sr model 2 age of 531 ± 32 Ma (Turner et al., 1994). Turner et al. (2009) produced an updated Rb-Sr age of 554 ± 10 Ma and a 40Ar/39Ar plateau-like age of 533 ± 15 Ma from muscovite grains in foliation domains.

2015, Precambrian ResearchCitation Excerpt :Some 2300 m of sedimentary cover culminating in the Bunyeroo Formation overlies the Elatina Formation in Hallett Cove (Dyson, 2002). This is compatible with high heat flow and lower greenschist facies metamorphism observed (Turner et al., 1994). The onset of brittle deformation near the Precambrian–Cambrian boundary (Preiss et al., 1995) makes it unlikely that Hallett Cove included an additional 1650 m of Ediacaran and 4852 m of Cambrian–Ordovician overburden found in the Flinders Ranges to the north (Retallack, 2011).

2014, TectonophysicsCitation Excerpt :In outcrop and thin section, two tectonic foliations can be observed (Fig. 5c, d, e). The oldest one (Sb1) is formed by a fine tectonic layering (Fig. 5c, d, e) (Turner et al., 1994). Bedding and Sb1 are overprinted by a second and main folding event (Fb2), which produced an axial planar cleavage (Sb2).
New constraints on Phanerozoic magmatic and hydrothermal events in the Mt Painter Province, South Australia
2013, Gondwana ResearchCitation Excerpt :The effects of the Delamerian Orogeny are most notable in the South Australian Adelaide Fold Belt south of the Mount Painter Province (Foden et al., 1999, 2006), extending to western Victoria (Turner et al., 1993). In these areas, as well as the more northerly Peake and Denison Ranges, magmatism (Turner and Foden, 1996; Foden et al., 2002) was more extensive than in the Mt Painter Province, and metamorphic effects are also well-documented (Jenkins and Sandiford, 1992; Turner et al., 1994). So, despite the high heat production of the Mesoproterozoic granites in the Mount Painter Province, magmatism during the Delamerian was far more limited here than in areas that do not show anomalously high heat flow.
