2014, Earth-Science ReviewsCitation Excerpt :The former offsets the Moho by ~ 25 km and is associated with an equivalent regional gravity high to the Woodroffe Thrust-Mann Fault system (Goleby et al., 1989, 1990; Lindsay and Leven, 1996; Korsch et al., 1998). Moderate crustal thickening is indicated by the exhumation of extensive granulite facies basement terranes and amphibolite facies shear zones with peak P-T conditions of 5.0-6.5 kbar and 500-600 °C in the Reynolds-Anmatjira Ranges and the Strangways Metamorphic Complex (Fig. 14; Cartwright and Buick, 1999; Ballèvre et al., 2000; Bendall, 2000; Hand and Buick, 2001; Raimondo et al., 2011, 2012), followed by the exposure of ~ 7 kbar and 570-710 °C Carboniferous metamorphic assemblages in the Entia Gneiss Complex further east (Arnold et al., 1995; Hand et al., 1999; Scrimgeour and Raith, 2001). Relative to the Petermann Orogen and Tien Shan, therefore, the Alice Springs Orogen involved a reduced scale of lithospheric deformation, but remains comparable to typical collisional orogens.
Boninite-derived amphibolites from the Lanterman-Mariner suture (northern Victoria Land, Antarctica): New geochemical and petrological data
2012, LithosCitation Excerpt :This is another piece of evidence that confirms that the rocks acquired their boninitic character before metamorphism. Arnold et al. (1995) proposed reactions similar to R5 and R7 to account for the prograde metamorphic evolution of similar mineral assemblages. The progress of these multivariant reactions mainly depends on the bulk-rock XFe, thus explaining the different amounts of staurolite, garnet, tschermakite and gedrite in these rocks.
Source of biotite in the Wuluma Pluton: Replacement of ferromagnesian phases and disaggregation of enclaves and schlieren
2011, LithosCitation Excerpt :The SMC is composed of Proterozoic sedimentary and igneous rocks that were metamorphosed to granulite facies conditions between 1.78 and 1.69 Ga. Most workers consider that there were two episodes in the formation of the SMC (Arnold et al., 1995; Clarke et al., 2007; Collins and Shaw, 1995; Foden et al., 1995; Lafrance et al., 1995; Maidment et al., 2005). The Early Strangways Event, also called the “Yambah Event” by Claoué-Long et al. (2008) took place between 1.78 and 1.75 Ga; the peak metamorphic conditions during this event are estimated at P = 5.5 ± 1.2 kbar and T > 750 °C (Maidment et al., 2005; Norman and Clarke, 1990) and produced granulite facies gneiss (Goscombe, 1991; Lafrance et al., 1995).
