Abstract

The temperature and field dependence at 4.2 K of the magnetization of Y2Fe17−xAlx and Ho2Fe17−xAlx ( x ≤ 10) compounds has been studied. Coupling constants have been derived by analyzing both the temperature dependence and the field dependence of the magnetization with a mean-field model. The results are compared to each other. The influence of the Ho-Ho interaction is considered. There is no pronounced temperature dependence of the interaction constant between the rare-earth and transition-metal sublattice.

Doping can enhance MR and TCR efficiently by determining the mixed Mn3+/Mn4+ ratio [12,13]. Also, doping with different ionic radii can change the lattice parameters [14,15], and the rotations of the MnO6 octahedron and changes of the bond lengths [16]. The divalent Ca or Sr doped La1−xAexMnO3 perovskite manganite family materials have been intensively studied due to doping caused DE and Jahn–Teller (J–T) distortions around Mn3+ by lattice interactions.

The 4f-electrons wave functions do not overlap directly, and the exchange between 4f-subbands is indirect. The 3d-4f interactions have the magnitudes between two above-mentioned interactions [42,45]. The magnetic order degree in both ferrimagnetic and ferromagnetic materials increases under an applied magnetic field in a forced magnetization region, which results in a maximum positive value of the MCE in a region of the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic and ferrimagnetic-paramagnetic transitions (the Curie temperature).

Ho2Fe17 crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal structure of the Th2Ni17 type, characteristic of the heavy R. Magnetic measurements on single crystals showed that in the ground state the spontaneous magnetic moment, Ms = 16.0–18.5 μB/f.u. (per formula unit), lies in the basal plane along the [210] direction (or the b axis in the orthorhombic coordinates) [2–6]. The compound is a collinear ferrimagnet below the Curie temperature, TC = 325–335 K [2,5,7,8]. The total magnetic moment is parallel to that of the Fe sublattice.
