As a fully automated multifunctional LC–MS system was applied for the p-MSPD process, it can provide an automated fractionation of the endogenous constituents, according to the LC retention time.

Kaempferol and quercetin, distributed throughout Zingiberaceae family (Williams and Harborne, 1977), belong to the class of flavonoids (flavonols, in particular) and are known for their antioxidative properties which protect constituents of plant foods from oxidative breakdown and might also contribute to protection from cardiovascular diseases or cancers (Manach et al., 1996). Both compounds, however, were detected in the leaves but not in the rhizomes.
