Abstract

Relationships are derived between the iota(1460) partial widths to γγ, ργ, ωγ, and φγ. They can be used to test whether the reported ργ enhancement is due to iota and to study the SU(3) flavor structure of iota decays.

η(1475) and f <inf>1</inf>(1420) resonances in J/ψ→γ(ρρ, γρ 0, γφ) decays and γγ * collisions

We resolve the contradiction between the suppression of the $η (1475) \to γ γ$ decay and the strong couplings of the $η (1475)$ to the $ρ ρ, ω ω$ , and $γ ρ^{0}$ channels by taking into account the effect of the heavy vector mesons ${ρ^{'}}^{0}, ω^{'}, ϕ^{'}$ . This lead us to the explanation of the resonancelike $Q^{2}$ dependence on the $γ γ^{⁎} (Q^{2}) \to K \bar{K} π$ reaction cross section by $η (1475)$ production, which is an alternative to the conventional explanation of dependence by $f_{1} (1420)$ production. The experimental check of our scenario requires definition of the spin-parity of the resonance contributions, R, in $γ γ^{⁎} (Q^{2}) \to R \to K \bar{K} π$ and in $J / ψ \to γ R \to γ γ (ρ^{0}, ϕ)$ . This will help to solve difficulties accumulated in understanding properties of the $η (1475)$ state and its nearest partners.
A study of J/ψ→γγV(ρ,φ) decays with the BESII detector

Using a sample of 58×10⁶ J/ψ events collected with the BESII detector, radiative decays J/ψ→γγV, where V=ρ or φ, are studied. A resonance around 1420 MeV/c² (X(1424)) is observed in the γρ mass spectrum. Its mass and width are measured to be 1424±10(stat)±11(sys) MeV/c² and 101.0±8.8±8.8 MeV/c², respectively, and its branching ratio B(J/ψ→γX(1424)→γγρ) is determined to be (1.07±0.17±0.11)×10⁻⁴. A search for X(1424)→γφ yields a 95% C.L. upper limit B(J/ψ→γX(1424)→γγφ)<0.82×10⁻⁴.
J/Ψ decays

A total of nearly 20 million J/Ψ decays have been analysed by various experiments that have operated at the J/Ψ energy in e⁺e⁻ storage rings. Their results are comprehensively reviewed in this report. Special emphasis is given to the aspect of gluon bound states, which are believed to be copiously produced in radiative decays of the J/Ψ. A key feature to the understanding of the different candidate states is the systematic comparison of radiative and non-radiative J/Ψ decays. It is argued that excellent candidates for 0^-+ and 2⁺⁺ gluonium states exist. A brief outlook to the future of J/Ψ physics expected at the BEPC storage ring in China is given in the summary.
Spectroscopy of mesons containing light quarks (u, d, s) or gluons

This paper gives an overview of the increase of experimental knowledge of mesons which are built by light quarks. This naturally includes also those mesonic states containing gluons and those with an exotic internal quark structure such as qq̄-qq̄.
The resulting mesonic “zoo” will be compared with predictions from actual phenomenological ansatzes: e.g. potential models, the bag model, and QCD sum rules, and also more general approaches such as QCD lattice gauge theories.
