Abstract

This chapter provides an outline of the processes used to remove heat-stable salts and other impurities from the amine solvents commonly used in post-combustion capture. These processes are likely to include initial steps of CO2 stripping, neutralization, and filtration. These initial steps will be followed by either thermal reclamation, ion exchange, or electrodialysis. Consideration is then given to the factors that must be considered in choosing an appropriate remediation process. These factors will include the concentration and nature of the contaminants, the cost of the amines being used, and the environmental impact arising from disposal of the waste arising from the reclamation process.
