Conclusions: Magnetic and Optical Hyperthermia Using Nanomaterials—Limitations, Challenges and Future Perspectives

The possibility of conveniently design the required specific both properties and characteristics of a certain material is without any doubt one of the most important aspects in materials engineering, and dealing with nanomaterials offer this opportunity. In this sense, multicomponent functional nanoscale systems are more interesting than their single-component analogs, since they have the potential to combine in just one entity the unique properties of several nanomaterials. Otherwise, since some of the alternative modern treatments being considered for the localized treatment of cancerous cells include thermal therapies, many research studies have been conducted looking for nontoxic (or negligibly toxic) magnetic nanoparticles that have both precise control of their heating capability and selective targeting to cancer cells. Remotely induced heat through the use of nanoparticles that are sensitive to a certain stimulus for the application of local hyperthermia is considered one of the best options to be used.
