Abstract

2-Aminoaryl ketones undergo condensation with α-methylene ketones in the presence of a catalytic amount of Y(OTf)3 at room temperature under mild conditions to afford the corresponding polysubstituted quinolines in excellent yields.

  • Micellar nanoreactors for organic transformations with a focus on “dehydration” reactions in water: A decade update

    2021, Tetrahedron
    Citation Excerpt :

In this context, Ravi et al. developed a Brønsted acid-promoted cascade synthesis of aza-analogues of dimeric flavonoids via homodimerization of 2-aminochalcones in an aqueous micellar media in high yields (Scheme 86) [365]. The first step involved Brønsted acid (p-TsOH) catalyzed intramolecular aza-Michael addition of 2-aminochalcone followed by the Friedlander condensation [366,367] to yield [1,6]-naphthyridines derivatives. The nanomicelles formed by surfactant SDS enabled the reaction to proceed in water smoothly at 100 °C.

Generally, this reaction is carried out by refluxing an aqueous or an alcoholic solution of reactants in the presence of a base at high temperature [2009CR(109)2652]. In addition, modified methods employing, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, p-toluenesulfonic acid, ZnCl2, polyphosphoric acid, Bi(OTf)3, silver phosphotungstate, sodium fluoride, AuCl3, Zr(NO3)4, Y(OTf)3, and CAN (cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate), among others, have been reported for the synthesis of quinolines [2003SL(2)203, 2004S2381, 2005TL(46)1647]. In search of more ecofriendly reaction conditions, the Friedländer heteroannulation protocol was carried out in the presence of imidazolium ionic liquids (IM-ILs) as reaction media along with promoters, and in the absence of any added catalyst [2003JOC(68)9371].
