Preparation of thioglycerol-modified silica through thiol-epoxy click reaction and its application in HILIC for detection of oligosaccharide in beverages
2023, Food ChemistryCitation Excerpt :As a complementary technique to reversed-phase liquid chromatography, HILIC is particularly suitable for analysis of strong polar saccharides which contain abundant hydroxyl groups. But in fact, amino-bonded columns have been employed for chromatographic analysis of saccharides since 1975 (Linden & Lawhead, 1975; Palmer, 1975), which was a prototype of HILIC and lack formal architectural definitions. However, owing to the Schiff base reaction between the amino groups and the aldehyde groups in reductive saccharides, the analytes are prone to be irreversibly adsorbed on the column, thus resulting in reduced column efficiency and inaccurate quantitative analysis (Hemstrom & Irgum, 2006).
