One of the more successful is a method described by Clarke and Ito [1], colleagues of the authors, in which core and cladding are cast in the same mould with the object of ensuring intimate contact between the two glasses with a perfect interface between them. First the cladding glass is poured into a cylindrical heated brass mould and then core glass is immediately poured in on top of it.

2016, Journal of Non-Crystalline SolidsCitation Excerpt :The specific literature reports different techniques applied for fabrication of heavy metal oxide glasses preforms of core-cladding optical fibers, such as: (i) double crucible method [24], (ii) rod in tube technique [25], and (iii) rotational casting processes, developed by Tran et al. in 1982 for fluoride-based fibers [26]. However, in this work we have used the suction method, which is fully detailed in [20] and following similarly principle to the setup described by Clarke in 1992 [27]. Core and cladding glasses compositions were also prepared by the conventional melt-casting method.
