The conserved genome organisation of non-falciparum malaria species: The need to know more
2000, International Journal for ParasitologyCitation Excerpt :The use of YACs allows for the stable propagation of large fragments up to 200 kb[60], whereas, in general, bacterial cloning systems appear to be limited in supporting fragment sizes over 5 kb, due to the instability of (A+T)-rich Plasmodium DNA. The information produced resulted in the assembly of physical maps of the 14 chromosomes[61, 62]and several complete or partial chromosome YAC contigs[63, 64]. In P. vivax and P. berghei, similar studies have been initiated, but on a much smaller scale.
