Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) are both retroviruses that can cause clinically indistinguishable immunodeficiency syndromes in domestic cats. Several test kits are commercially available for the diagnosis of FeLV and FIV infections. This article discusses the epidemiology and pathogenesis of these viruses in relation to the interpretation of the results of such tests.
