Deep precision machining of SiC ceramics by picosecond laser ablation
2023, Ceramics InternationalDevelopment of quality microholes by electrical discharge drilling on Al/SiC composite using of Grey-desirability approach
2022, International Journal of Lightweight Materials and ManufactureCitation Excerpt :Due the induced discharge energy between tool and workpiece, the molten material starts to accumulate, which reduces the drilling rate (DR) [2]. Number of attempts have been made by the researchers [3–12] to process the ceramic based composite material. But it is still a challenge for manufacturing engineers due to abrasive attribute of ceramic particles.
Fabrication and experimental study to optimize the recast layer and the material removal in electric discharge machining (EDM) of AA6061-B<inf>4</inf>C composite
2019, Materials Today: ProceedingsCitation Excerpt :Moreover, when the process is scaling down from meso to micro level these issues are more severe due to both the size of RF particle and grain (of the matrix material) is comparable to the edge radius of the cutting tool [16]. Therefore, a non-conventional Electric Discharge Machining (EDM) is being reported as a potential process to overcome these limitations while machining the composites [17–21]. In EDM, the material removal takes place by precisely controlled sparks that occur between the tool (electrode) and work-piece separated with a specific spark gap (few micrometers) in the presence of a dielectric fluid such as hydrocarbon oil or deionized water.
