Recent phylogenomic analysis suggests that South West Pacific ST30-IV may have emerged independently from an ancestral CC30 clone in 1967, although this study did not include isolates from New Zealand or Samoa 56. Since 2005, an ST5-IV clone has rapidly displaced ST30-IV as the predominant CA-MRSA clone in New Zealand, accounting for approximately half of all MRSA in a national period-prevalence survey in 2012 26.
