The same 7-mm cutoff of CBD diameter on US was also suggested as usable by Sarli et al8; LeBedis30 also reported that CDL may be considered when dilation of the CBD greater than 8 mm is present on US or CT. One of the recent studies on the dilemmas regarding the pathological threshold of CBD diameter31 advocated that the CBD diameter is best expressed and most clinically useful as an age-related variable. With diameters between 3 and 10 mm, the probability of CBD stones increases in an approximately linear fashion with an increasing CBD diameter and is modified by clinical presentation and the patient’s age.
