2018, European Journal of PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Three major oscillatory components are detectable using this system including: the high frequency component (HF: 0.6–3 Hz) which is associated with parasympathetic activity; the low frequency (LF: 0.2–0.6 Hz) component which is associated with sympathetic and parasympathetic activity, and the very low frequency component (VLF: below 0.2 Hz). All these were determined in all cases (Incharoen et al., 2007). To minimize the effect of change in total power on the LF and HF components, LF and HF were expressed as normalized units (LFnu and HFnu) by dividing the LF and HF by the total power minus VLF (Incharoen et al., 2007; Rutjanaprom et al., 2009).
