Objective

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of an inpatient Heart Failure Nurse Practitioner (HF NP) service on improving patient outcomes in patients admitted with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF).

Methods

The study recruited 400 randomly selected patients admitted to a single centre with ADHF and discharged home (200 patients in the historical control and 200 in the prospective HF NP group), between 2014-2016. Patients in the HF NP group received education about HF, prescribing and
