Highlights

  • The Indonesian medicine formulary has recently been revised and will be implemented in April 2020.

  • Nifedipine will no longer be available in public primary care service (Puskesmas) according to the new formulary.

  • This change will severely impact on the management of pregnancy hypertension in Indonesian primary care, given that very limited treatment options are currently available.

  • Mortality caused by pregnancy hypertension in Indonesia continous to be unacceptably high.

  • The decision to remove nifedipine from use in Indonesian public primary health must be urgently revisited.
