Effect of antigen challenge on dynamics of CD62P and CD41/61 expression on platelets in horses with recurrent airway obstruction (RAO)
2018, Veterinary Immunology and ImmunopathologyCitation Excerpt :That was not observed in control horses. The results support observations made in several studies, which demonstrated the activation and accumulation of neutrophils in the lungs and airways of horses with RAO in response to an antigen challenge (Dunkel et al., 2007, 2010, Fairbairn et al., 1993a,b, 1996, Hammond et al., 2007; Marr et al., 2002). Even in horses with clearly abnormal diagnostic findings and a history of RAO, the majority of owners reported satisfaction with the clinical status of their horses (Rettmer et al., 2015).
Expression of surface platelet receptors (CD62P and CD41/61) in horses with recurrent airway obstruction (RAO)
2015, Veterinary Immunology and ImmunopathologyCitation Excerpt :Recurrent airway obstruction (RAO), also known as heaves, is an allergic disease of horses similar to human asthma, that develops in susceptible horses following stabling and hay dust exposure (Cunningham and Dunkel, 2008; Dunkel et al., 2009; Leguillette, 2003; Hammond et al., 2007; Moran and Folch, 2011).
The influence of age on plasma serotonin levels in Thoroughbred horses
2012, Livestock ScienceCitation Excerpt :Horse plasma levels (Di Pietro et al., 2010; Haritou et al., 2008; Lebelt et al., 1998) are higher than human plasma (Brenner et al., 2007). The increase of plasma 5-HT is often related to common horse pathologies as acute laminitis (Bailey et al., 2009) and recurrent airway obstruction in ponies (Hammond et al., 2007). 5-HT also plays an important role as an intestinal secretagogue in gastrointestinal disorders such as gastric ulcers, diarrhea and colic in newborn foals and adult horses (Delesalle et al., 2008; Fink et al., 2006).
