Further observations on the Golgi apparatus and its functions in cells of the wheat seedling

Radioautographic experiments confirm previous work indicating that Golgi bodies in root epidermal cells contribute material to the wall, and, in telophase cells, preferentially to the cell plate. Observations on other cells suggest that the endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi apparatus are involved in the synthesis of wall precursors. In stomatal cells, vesicles probably derived from the Golgi apparatus are apparently discharged into the vacuole. Further study of the Golgi apparatus in several types of cells, and some preliminary histochemical work, indicates that progressive changes can occur across the cisternal stack, and that the cisternae of some Golgi bodies do not necessarily all have identical functions.
