Can gait kinetic data predict femoral bone mineral density in elderly men and women aged 50 years and older?
2021, Journal of BiomechanicsCitation Excerpt :In particular, hip fracture is a serious complication of osteoporosis related to high mortality, long-term disability, and loss of independence in the activities of daily living among the elderly, and the incidence of hip fracture increases rapidly with age (Willig et al, 2001; Melton, 1996). Bone mineral density (BMD) accounts for approximately 70% of bone strength, and is often used as a surrogate measure of bone strength and a predictor of fracture risk (Wark, 1993). It has been reported that bone tissue responds to dynamic loading while static loading does not initiate osteogenesis (Lanyon and Rubin, 1984).
