Abstract
Sol-gel TiO2 thin films were autoclaved under various water/ethanol atmospheres. The microstructural, morphological and photocatalytic properties of the films were studied. The photocatalytic activity of the films appears closely related to crystallization states. It is shown that nanocrystallized porous films can be produced in a temperature range compatible with titania deposition on polymer materials. Consequently, photocatalytic films could successfully be prepared on polycarbonate and polymethylmetacrylate substrates. The autoclaved film properties are described and discussed with respect to sol-gel parameters and autoclaving conditions.
