Tissue Culture of Oats

Abstract

TISSUE culture of monocotyledonous plants has rarely been successful1,2 and to our knowledge Avena sativa has not previously been grown as a callus on completely synthetic media. The Avena coleoptile and straight growth tests have been used widely as biological assays for plant auxins, and the effect of growth substances on various parts of oat seedlings has been the subject of a number of investigations3,4. This communication will report successful callus induction and callus growth of oats.
