Abstract
SEVERAL investigators have shown that black or bilayer lipid membranes (BLM) are the most realistic approach to cell membrane models. A review of the relevant literature has recently been published1. This communication reports some observations with such membranes formed from photosynthetic pigments such as chlorophylls and xanthophylls. The BLM in aqueous solution exhibit two interesting photoelectric phenomena: (a) a photovoltaic effect, and (b) photoconductivity.
