Interferon inhibits Viral Protein Synthesis in L Cells infected with Vaccinia Virus

Abstract

Viral RNA can be detected in L cells pretreated with interferon and infected with vaccinia virus, but protein synthesis ceases as early as 20 min after infection. The effect of interferon must therefore be at the stage of translation rather than transcription.
