Nd—Sr isotopic composition of granulites and constraints on the evolution of the lower continental crust

Abstract

In a statistical study of granulite facies rocks, we have analysed 32 samples with ages ranging from 2,900 to 200 Myr for Sm, Nd, Rb and Sr and 143Nd/144Nd and 87Sr/86Sr ratios. The Sm/Nd ratio is found to be constant compared with the highly variable Rb/Sr ratio. Using the model age formalism, we show that, in many cases internal differentiation of continental crust follows external differentiation with a large time interval.
