Local treatment with phosphatidylserine-containing liposomes (PSLs) ameliorate inflammatory bone loss induced by adjuvant-injection. Infiltrated macrophages undergo phenotypic change from IL-1β-producing to IL-10-producing cells after phagocytosis of PSLs. The likely underlying mechanism is that PSL has differential effects on the activities of p38 MAPK and ERK.
