Function of Peptide Antibiotics in Sporulation

Abstract

Tyrothricin specifically inhibits RNA synthesis in growing cultures of Bacillus brevis as well as purified RNA polymerase. This suggests that the peptide antibiotic may function in the regulation of gene transcription during the transition from vegetative growth to sporulation.
