Light scattering studies on n-dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide and n-dodecylpyridinium iodide

Abstract

The aggregation numbers and effective charges of the micelles of n-dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide and n-dodecylpyridinium iodide have been measured over a range of temperature and ionic strength in aqueous solutions by light scattering. From the micellar parameters the hydrophobic and electrostatic contributions to the free energy and enthalpy of micellization have been calculated and a comparison between the calculated enthalpy of micellization and the calorimetric values is made.
