Solid-state reaction between zinc oxide and ferric oxide

Abstract

The solid-state reaction ZnO + Fe2O3→ ZnFe2O4 has been studied by means of magnetic and thermo-gravimetric measurements and by X-ray analysis. Because of the diamagnetic nature of the Zn2+ ion, intermediate products can be identified and a mechanism proposed by Reijnen has been confirmed for this reaction. Magnetization-temperature curves of mixed zinc iron ferrites are reported.
