Solvent structure in particle interactions. Low pressure effects and analytic limits

Abstract

In an earlier publication (J.C.S. Faraday II, 1978, 74, 1116) a mixed Percus–Yevick and Hypernetted Chain approximation was used to calculate the structure of a simple fluid near a planar surface and the “structural” interaction between two such surfaces separated by the fluid. The quality of the HNC/PY approximation is assessed by comparing analytic results obtained in this approximation with known exact results. Numerical results in the more interesting low pressure regime are given. Errors in the earlier calculation are also corrected.
