Abstract

Pbenotypic, genotypic, and environmental correlations have been studied amongst the different characters in opium poppy. Plant dry weight, capsule number and stigmatic rays have been found to be significantly correlated genotypically with opium, morphine and seed yield and hence the plants selected on this basis are of value in hybridization work in the very first generation. The correlations amongst the component characters of yield are significant in most cases and their value in drawing up the selection schemes, like the selection indices, has been pointed out.
