Abstract

Having explored the practice of blended language learning in lessons and tasks, we now turn our attention to its practice at the programme level of the tertiary institution. The purpose of this chapter is to provide illustrations, through case studies, of institutional factors that influence the development of blending language learning. Throughout, we explore the situation at two universities that we have named ‘Minami’ and ‘Kita’ to discuss issues of programme design. Each university, located in Japan, developed an EFL programme where a majority of its classes used purpose-built blended learning rooms.
