  1. The Aristotelian notion of phronesis refers to forms of ‘practical wisdom’ as a guide for political action. In recent years there has been growing interest in this approach in the social sciences more generally (Flyvbjerg et al, 2012) and it is beginning to have greater influence in international relations.
