Abstract

A study of the multiplication of the frequency of picosecond pulses revealed a shift of the central frequency of the second harmonic spectrum dependent on the intensity of the fundamental-frequency radiation. It was found that the effect was associated with the cubic nonlinearity of the medium. A theory of second harmonic generation was developed in the constant intensity approximation allowing for the quadratic and cubic nonlinearities.
