A Centered Dipole Model for the High Field Magnetic White Dwarf GRW +70 degrees 8247
Abstract
An attempt is made to model the positions, strengths, and absorption profiles of the features seen in the high-field magnetic white dwarf Grw +70 deg 8247. The model atmospheres used represent an extension to higher fields of previous work on the lower field magnetic white dwarfs. It is found that the main spectral characteristics in the blue spectral region can be modeled with a centered dipole field distribution. However, there are significant discrepancies between theory and observation in the UV and at longer wavelengths which require further investigation and may indicate more complex field geometries.
